How do you translate a Bulgarian diploma for WES or USCIS?
WES wants an exact, word-for-word English translation made by a professional translator, and USCIS wants a full translation with the translator’s signed certification. We translate the Bulgarian university diploma, the European diploma supplement with every course and grade, and the secondary school diploma. We charge by the page: $25 for the first page and $20 for each additional one. The translation is ready within 24 hours after payment.
What a Bulgarian university issues
Under Bulgaria’s Higher Education Act, a university issues a diploma for the completed degree and a European diploma supplement. The supplement is issued on request, and neither carries a fee. Diplomas the state recognizes bear a seal with the state coat of arms (Higher Education Act, Art. 7 (opens in a new tab)).
The act sets the degrees: professional bachelor, with at least 180 credits and three years of study; bachelor, with at least 240 credits and four years; master; and doctor (Higher Education Act, Art. 42 (opens in a new tab)). The translation gives the degree exactly as the diploma names it, “Professional Bachelor in …” included. Which US degree it compares to is for the evaluator.
The six-point grade scale
Bulgarian universities grade from 2 to 6: 6 is Excellent, 5 Very good, 4 Good, 3 Satisfactory and 2 Fail (Sofia University (opens in a new tab)). We keep each grade as written, in words and in figures, and don’t convert it.
What the translation includes
- the diploma: every line of it, the seal with the coat of arms and every signature;
- the supplement: every course in the order of the original, with its credits and grade, so the evaluator can read each one;
- the secondary school diploma: every subject with its grade;
- stamps and notes, such as an apostille.
WES asks for a translation from the documents the school issued, so send us scans of the originals, not student copies (wes.org (opens in a new tab)).
Where the translation goes
- WES: a word-for-word translation by a professional translator; WES turns down translations made by the applicant. What WES and ECE accept
- ECE: a word-for-word translation in the same format as the original (ece.org (opens in a new tab)).
- USCIS: a full translation with the translator’s signed certification (8 CFR 103.2(b)(3) (opens in a new tab)). What USCIS accepts

Questions
Will you turn my Bulgarian grades into a US GPA?
No. A 5.50 stays a 5.50 with its word grade. Converting it is the evaluator’s job, not the translator’s.
How much does it cost?
We charge by the page: $25 for the first page and $20 for each additional one, so a diploma with a two-page supplement is $65. Send photos of every page, and we’ll give you the exact price.
Do I need a notary or an apostille?
Not for WES or USCIS: they ask for a professional translation, and USCIS for the translator’s signed certification, which is included. If your diploma has an apostille, we translate it too.
How long does it take?
