How do you translate an Ecuadorian diploma (título) for WES or USCIS?

Checked , based on gob.ec (opens in a new tab)

WES asks for a word-for-word translation by a professional translator, and USCIS for a full translation with the translator’s signed certification. We translate Ecuadorian diplomas in full: university and postgraduate títulos, the SENESCYT registration certificate, transcripts and the apostille, stamps and signatures included. A título is usually one page: $25, ready within 24 hours after payment.

Títulos and the SENESCYT certificate

Ecuador’s Foreign Ministry divides education documents by level. University and postgraduate studies are the third and fourth levels (tercer y cuarto nivel); school is the first and second (gob.ec (opens in a new tab)).

For a university título, the Foreign Ministry lists two documents from SENESCYT, the Secretariat of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation: a title registration certificate (Certificado de Registro de Título) and the título itself with SENESCYT’s legalization signature. Both can be apostilled in the Ministry’s online portal (gob.ec (opens in a new tab)).

Ecuador’s official guide to government procedures now lists SENESCYT’s procedures, such as changes to the registry of national títulos, under the Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture (MINEDEC) (gob.ec (opens in a new tab)). The Foreign Ministry’s apostille page still names SENESCYT.

Before an apostille

The Foreign Ministry apostilles a public document only after the institution that issued it has certified it (gob.ec (opens in a new tab)):

  • a university título, academic program or transcript of a graduate needs SENESCYT’s certification, from a public or private university alike;
  • at a public university, the transcript of a student who didn’t graduate is certified by the university’s Secretary General;
  • a school diploma or report card is certified by the zonal district of the Ministry of Education.

What the translation includes

We translate every line of the título: the university, the degree as it is written, your name, the dates and the registration details, with the seals and signatures described in brackets. The SENESCYT certificate, a transcript and the apostille are separate documents in the same order, and each is translated in full.

We don’t convert grades and don’t say what the degree equals in the US: that’s the evaluator’s job. We keep both surnames in the order of the título and spell your name as in your passport.

Where the translation goes

Our Spanish documents are translated and certified by a native Spanish speaker. Which documents your evaluation needs is up to the evaluator. What to file in your case is for you or your attorney to decide.

Questions

My apostille is electronic. Can you translate it?

Yes. We translate an electronic apostille the same way as one on paper, with its number, date and verification details; it counts as one page of your order.

How much does it cost?

A título is usually one page: $25. Each additional page in the same order is $20, so a título, its SENESCYT certificate and an apostille are $65. A transcript with every subject takes more pages.

Do I need a notary or an apostille?

Not for USCIS: it asks for the translator’s signed certification, and it’s included. WES and ECE don’t list a notary among their translation requirements. If your documents already have an apostille, we translate it too.

How long does it take?

1–4 documents: within 24 hours after payment; faster, within 12 hours (+$15 a page) or 3 hours (+$30 a page, paid between 8 am and 6 pm Pacific time). For 5 or more, we give you the date with the quote.
