Which documents need a translation for Ukrainian TPS or re-parole?
For TPS (Form I-821) and for re-parole (Form I-131), USCIS asks for a full English translation of every document in Ukrainian or Russian, with the translator’s signed certification, printed name, date and contact information. We translate Ukrainian and Russian passports, birth and marriage certificates and other documents in full: $25 for the first page, $20 for each additional one. Our certification has everything the instructions list.
What the instructions ask of a translation
The Form I-821 instructions (opens in a new tab) for Temporary Protected Status (edition 01/20/25, p. 3) and the Form I-131 instructions (opens in a new tab), the form used for re-parole (edition 01/20/25, p. 17), have the same translation paragraph. A document in a foreign language comes with a full English translation. The translator signs a certification that the translation is complete and accurate and that they are competent to translate from the foreign language into English. The certification also includes the translator’s signature, printed name, the date and contact information.
Our certification has all of these. The general USCIS rule is in 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3) (opens in a new tab); the USCIS Policy Manual (opens in a new tab) adds that a summary of a document is not accepted.
Which documents
Ukrainian applicants usually need translations of:
- the passport of a citizen of Ukraine (the booklet or the ID card) and the international passport, if they have stamps or notes in Ukrainian;
- birth certificates, including Soviet ones with Ukrainian and Russian text;
- marriage and divorce certificates;
- other documents the instructions ask for in your case.
Which documents to file is for you or your attorney to decide; the lists are in the instructions for each form. USCIS describes the re-parole process on its re-parole page (opens in a new tab).
TPS for Ukraine on the date we checked
On October 23, 2026, the USCIS page on TPS for Ukraine (opens in a new tab) said the designation was set to run through October 19, 2026, and that a further announcement would follow; until then, people with TPS keep their protection, including work authorization. Check that page for the current status: we translate documents and don’t advise on cases.
Names in Ukrainian documents
Ukrainian names are often spelled differently in different documents: by the Ukrainian transliteration rules, from Russian, or by an older international passport. We spell names the way you give them from your current international passport and keep that spelling in every document of your order. If documents of different years spell a name differently, the translation follows each document, and we can add a translator’s note.
